Paper Title: Oblique Detonation Stabilized on a Hypervelocity Projectile Authors
We present new experimental results demonstrating the initiation and stabilization of an oblique detonation by a hypervelocity projectile. Projectiles 25 mm in diameter were launched at nominal velocities of 2700 m/s into stoichiometric H2-O2-N2 mixtures at pressures between 0.1 and 2.5 bar. A critical threshold in initial pressure was found to be required for the establishment of detonations. ...
متن کاملFailure mechanism of monolayer graphene under hypervelocity impact of spherical projectile
The excellent mechanical properties of graphene have enabled it as appealing candidate in the field of impact protection or protective shield. By considering a monolayer graphene membrane, in this work, we assessed its deformation mechanisms under hypervelocity impact (from 2 to 6 km/s), based on a serial of in silico studies. It is found that the cracks are formed preferentially in the zigzag ...
متن کاملMulti-objective Optimization of a Projectile Tip for Normal Penetration
The main purpose of the present work is multi-objective shape optimization of a projectile tip for impacting and normal penetrating. Velocity drop, weight and inner volume of projectile have been considered as three conflicting objective functions. For this purpose, at the first step, finite element modeling was done using ABAQUS/Explicit and projectile penetration was examined in different ge...
متن کاملHypervelocity Planets and Transits Around Hypervelocity Stars
Introduction: At the center of the Milky Way galaxy lies a black hole with mass ∼ 4× 106 that of the Sun. When a binary star system (two stars gravitationally bound to one another) approaches this massive black hole (MBH), the system can be tidally disrupted. This disruption can lead to the ejection of one star from the Milky Way at velocities of ∼ 1.5 million miles per hour. This is known as a...
متن کاملA Successful Targeted Search for Hypervelocity Stars
Hypervelocity stars (HVSs) travel with velocities so extreme that dynamical ejection from a massive black hole is their only suggested origin. Following the discovery of the first HVS by Brown and collaborators, we have undertaken a dedicated survey for more HVSs in the Galactic halo and present here the resulting discovery of two new HVSs: SDSS J091301.0+305120 and SDSS J091759.5+672238, trave...
